Cruising to Nassau, Bahamas with Kids

A day in the Bahamas seems to be synonymous with Atlantis or the straw market.  Looking for something different that will keep the kids occupied and happy too?  Here’s some suggestions.

The Pirates of Nassau: This is great interactive museum that your kids will really enjoy. It provides a great mix of entertainment and history of the Golden Age of Piracy in the Bahamas. Your adventure begins as you step onto a moonlit dock complete with the sounds of lapping water and pirates celebrating in a nearby tavern. There’s a replica of the pirate ship “Revenge” that everyone can board and get a feel for life on the ship. My husband loved the museum as much as my son!

The Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre: Best for young children, this is a tranquil break from the crowds of the beach, Atlantis, and downtown Nassau. Ardastra is a small, friendly zoo. We’re not talking lions and tigers and bears.  It’s more like tropical birds, snakes, iguanas, and monkeys. There is also a barnyard area with sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens, pigs, and guinea pigs. You can buy feed for the goats and sheep. There’s a fun Flamingo Show that shouldn’t be missed.

Blue Lagoon Island: Make your way to the Paradise Island ferry terminal, and then it’s a short boat ride to Blue Lagoon Island.  Or if you prefer, most cruise lines offer the Island as a day-long excursion. The inflatable water park, water bikes, tubes, kayaks and snorkeling will keep your family busy all day. There are dolphin and sea lion experiences that you can book for an extra charge. Of course there is a bar and restaurant on site.
