Royal
Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas will be the cruise line's third Oasis class
cruise ship, launching in the spring of 2016. The first two Oasis class ships,
Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, made waves in the cruise industry
when they debuted in 2009 and 2010, respectively, and are by far the largest
cruise ships currently afloat. But Harmony will measure 227,000 tons, eclipsing
its sisters by more than 1,700 tons! So
how do you keep a record 5,400+ passengers entertained for seven days? Easy!
I
love a good musical so I was excited to hear that the Harmony’s Royal Theater
is home to two headline shows. The
first I’ve mentioned briefly before, “Grease”.
I love this show, a story about teens in the 50's. Good girl
Sandy and greaser Danny fall in love over the summer. But when they
unexpectedly discover they're now in the same high school, will they be able to
rekindle their romance despite their differences? Well, you know the answer to
that! And who doesn’t love singing along to "Summer Nights”?
The
second show is a Royal Caribbean original production. “Columbus,
the Musical!” recounts the imagined history of Marvin Columbus, Christopher's
fictional, down on his luck, distant cousin! Royal Caribbean says the story was
created in the spirit of "Spamalot”.
If it is half as funny as the Monty Python parody then I’m sure they’ll
have a winner on their hands with this!
My
favorite entertainment venue on the Oasis and Allure was the Aqua Theater! It’s always a nail biting experience
watching these incredibly talented divers jumping into a pool that looks so
small! There’s two new shows here too! The first is called “The Fine Line”, a
gravity-defying diving and acrobatic display.
Am I the only person who watches these shows with my eyes half covered
because it’s so nerve wracking?
According
to what I read on Royal Caribbean’s press release, Hideaway Heist is an family friendly action
packed comedy aqua show that jumps into the world of a swanky 1950's holiday resort
where guys 'n' dolls take the audience on a frolicking escapade in, on and
around the pool as an undercover detective, playing the part of a high-rolling
vacationer, pursues a crafty burglar.
Studio
B debuts a couple of new ice shows on the Harmony of the Seas. “1887” tells a
show on ice about Juliet and her mysterious time traveling companion, the
Tempus, travel in multiple dimensions to discover the wonders of the world, and
of the heart. If you have ever seen a Royal Caribbean ice show then you know
the costumes, special effects and of course the skating will leave you
breathless!
“iSkate
Showcase” puts the spotlight on many of the talented skaters as they show off
their very best moves set to their own favorite tunes. Sounds like less
artistic interpretation and more good old fashion skating!
The
last thing I want to mention is “Puzzle Break: Escape the Rubicon”. Maybe
you’ve participated in a Puzzle Break experience in your hometown. Puzzle Break is a real-life Room Escape
puzzle game in which you and a small group of people are trapped in a room and
have to find the hidden clues needed to solve a collection of puzzles that will
eventually unravel the mystery of the Rubicon. What a great activity for
families that are traveling together!
What a fun way to make some new friends!
So,
this is just a small sample, (yes, you heard me right, I said a small sample)
of the entertainment aboard Harmony of the Seas! Doesn’t it all sound amazing? Harmony of the Seas will debut with
a European cruise season May through October 2016 and then follow it up with
year-round Caribbean 7-Night Eastern & Western sailings starting November
2016 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
