Exciting features were revealed today regarding the Norwegian Breakaway, set to sail from New York City in the spring of 2013. While last month’s announcements focused on the Waterfront area, this month’s reveals were more “action packed”. The Norwegian Breakaway will feature a three-story Sports Complex and multiple water features that the entire family can enjoy. The only question is, will seven days be long enough to experience it all?
It starts with the largest ropes course at sea. Thrill-seekers of all ages can navigate a challenging maze of beams, swinging ropes and ladders. The truly brave at heart can try walking The Plank, a beam that extends 8 feet over the side of the ship! Neither climbing techniques nor physical fitness experience is necessary to experience the 40 elements of this multi-level structure. And yes, guests must be tethered to a safety harness!
Then there’s the Spider Web, a 24-foot tall enclosed climbing cage, complete with a spiral slide. This is probably a great way for little ones to practice before tackling the ropes course!
If you think a backyard trampoline is fun, wait till you try a bungee trampoline! Participants wear a harness that is hooked to several bungee cords. This allows higher jumps, and the ability to do flips and other maneuvers that would otherwise be impossible on a regular trampoline.
An ocean themed mini golf course will have the whole family practicing their putting! It is designed for both the young and the young at heart, with obstacles for all skill levels. If you’re not a golfer, there’s also a place for other sports activities. The full court basketball is a multi-functional space, as it can also be used for volleyball, dodge ball, soccer, etc.
Rock climbing walls are becoming a cruise ship staple, so it’s not surprising to find one on the Breakaway. It’s perfect for everyone from first-timers just looking to have some fun, to experienced climbers, hoping for a challenging workout.
With so much activity, guests will be looking for a way to cool down. The Norwegian Breakaway has some great water features that will do just that. A Nickelodeon-themed AquaPark with a kid sized pool and slide is perfect for little cruisers. Their friends from Bikini Bottom, Sponge Bob, Patrick, and Squidward, will adorn the area in the form of water features.
Adrenaline junkies will love the two free-fall waterslides. Guests start out standing, that is, until the floor drops from underneath, propelling them into a wild loop! Two additional side by side twister slides, called The Whip, plunge guests through a twisty-turny spiral! Those looking for something a bit more “tame” will enjoy the open-flume slide.
Of course, there may be adults onboard looking to unwind, far away from the joyful squeal and shouts of happy (and maybe not so happy) children. Well, Norwegian Cruise Line figured that was a possibility! At the new Vibe Beach Club, guests 18 or older can hang out in an area all to themselves. Ocean views, an oversized hot tub, comfy loungers and a relaxing water feature make it a perfect area to chill out. A full service bar, water spritzers, chilled towels and skewers of fresh fruit provide even more serenity!
Sounds like the Norwegian Breakaway is going to be one AMAZING ship! But wait, there’s more! Stay tuned for next month’s Norwegian Breakaway reveal that will focus on entertainment. Check back with us for all the details."
